Contract Administration

Independent, structured contract management to keep your project fair, compliant, and under control.

Effective contract administration protects all parties’ interests and ensures that construction projects are delivered in accordance with the contract, law, and agreed performance expectations. Whether acting as Engineer to the Contract (EtC), Principal’s Representative (PR), or Contractor’s Representative, our role is to maintain impartiality, administer obligations correctly, and uphold the integrity of the delivery process under NZS 3910, 3915, and 3916 conditions.

We provide structured administration across the contract lifecycle—from procurement and contract formation to execution, variations, and close-out. Our advisory support ensures the proper allocation of risk, clarity of obligations, and consistency with legislative and contract requirements.

When acting as Engineer to the Contract, we issue formal instructions, assess and certify payment claims, review programme impacts, and determine time extensions in accordance with the contract. We perform these functions independently, transparently, and with due regard to the fairness expected of the role.

As Engineer’s Representative, we oversee on-site progress, confirm compliance with the specification, and provide a clear channel for communication between parties. Our team ensures that day-to-day matters are resolved efficiently, without compromising contractual rights or disrupting delivery.

In addition to these traditional roles, Conowise also provides a Contractor’s Representative service. This ensures that contractor obligations are administered professionally and transparently, supporting communication, documentation, and performance reporting obligations. It enables contractors—particularly those without in-house commercial resources—to uphold their responsibilities while protecting their entitlements.

Our goal is to reduce ambiguity, minimise dispute potential, and provide timely, accurate administration throughout the project lifecycle. With our deep knowledge of local contract conditions and industry practices, we ensure decisions are made fairly, promptly, and in accordance with the contractual framework.
